Form
The present continuous, also called present progressive, is really easy to make. It is the same for all verbs. We form it using the present simple of the verb to be followed by a verb + ing.
Affirmative
I am talking (or I'm talking)
You are talking (or you're talking)
He/she/it is talking (or he/she/it's talking)
We are talking (or we're talking)
You are talking (or you're talking)
They are talking (or they're talking)
Negative
We form the negative by adding 'not'.
I am not talking (or I'm not talking)
You are not talking (you're not talking or you aren't talking)
He/she/it is not talking (or he's not talking or he isn't talking)
We are not talking (we're not talking or we aren't talking)
You are not talking (you're not talking or you aren't talking)
They are not talking (or they're not talking)
Interrogative
In order to make sentences, you have to put the verb to be before the subject.
Am I talking?
Are you talking?
Is he/she/it talking?
Are we talking?
Are you talking?
Are they talking?
USE
1. We use the present continuous when we talk abotu something that is happening at the time of speaking.
- Where is Ann? She's working right now.
- Please don't make so much noise. I'm studying.
2. We can use this tense for temporary situations, when we feel something will not continue for a long time.
- I'm living in New York for a few months.
- She's working in a bar until she finishes her studies.
3. It can be used when talking about changing situations.
- Is your English getting better?
- The weather is improving.
4. The next use is for definite future arrangements (with a future time word). In this case we have already made a plan and we are pretty sure that the event will happen in the future.
- I'm meeting my father tomorrow.
- They are coming to the party at the weekend.
5. This tense can be used when we want to show that something happens too often and we don't like it.
- She's constantly missing the train.
- You're always losing your keys!
